Letter to the Federal Government from the CBTU

Oct 6, 2025

Dear IUOE 942 Members,

We’re asking for your support in participating in a letter-writing campaign that Canada’s Building Trades Unions have undertaken to improve working conditions for all members including some of our members at IUOE Local 942. The goal is to push for mandatory prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements in all federally funded nation building projects under Bill C-5.

The campaign includes a letter addressed to Prime Minister Mark Carney and Minister of Jobs and Families Patty Hajdu, urging them to align Bill C-5 with the strong labour standards already found in Bill C-59.

Please read the enclosed letter and participate in the letter writing campaign by clicking this link to send a letter to your local member of Parliament throughout the month of October.

Together, we can ensure that investments in Canada’s infrastructure mean good-paying, unionized jobs for skilled tradespeople.

In solidarity,
