Canada’s new anti-spam laws will be coming into effect on July 1, 2014. Unfortunately, the Federal Government drafted legislation that goes well beyond targeting harmful spam. It has banned all commercial electronic messages unless consent is obtained from the recipient. This applies to non-profit organizations including charitable organizations. Due to the poorly drafted legislation, union electronic correspondence will also be affected.
We want to ensure that we still have your consent to send you electronically our newsletter, notices of meetings, and other events as well as other information including promotional materials that we might send occasionally for the purpose of sharing information that we believe is of interest to you.
We will be sending an e-mail to each member on our mailing list. If you wish to continue to receive our emails, please reply to this e-mail and type “I consent” in the subject line. If we do not receive your consent, we might not be able to send you information that may also contain some commercial or promotional content after July 1, 2014. Please note, however, that there is no time limit within which to reply.
